The government of Guinea-Bissau is negotiating the country's connection to one of the Atlantic submarine cables, a source close to the process told Lusa. Service providers in Guinea-Bissau currently use international indirect links through other countries, such as Senegal or Guinea. The internet was identified as a priority by Guinea-Bissau's Prime Minister, Domingos Simoes Pereira, in his election campaign in 2014. In a related development, the Prime Minister of Sao Tome and Principe, Patrice Trovoada, has expressed his interest in connecting Sao Tome and Principe and Equatorial Guinea via a fibre-optic submarine cable, adding that the project could be implemented in the short term, reports Telenon.
